GridPane and SpinupWP alternatives for WordPress agencies
Looking for a GridPane alternative? We price GridPane, SpinupWP and ZoPanel for an agency running 30 client WordPress sites and compare what each does well.

Key takeaways
- GridPane now offers a free Core plan limited to 25 sites and paid PeakFreq managed servers billed per server, while its older Panel and Developer Plus plans are closed to new sign-ups.
- SpinupWP charges a monthly fee for the first server plus a falling per-server price for the rest, and you bring your own VPS.
- For 30 client sites on three 4 GB servers, a self-hosted panel licensed per server has the lowest software cost, but you manage the servers yourself.
- GridPane PeakFreq includes the server and 24/7 support in its price, so compare it against VPS plus panel plus your own time, not panel against panel.
The main GridPane alternatives for a WordPress agency are SpinupWP, a hosted dashboard that manages your own VPS for a monthly fee per server, and self-hosted control panels such as ZoPanel, which run on the server and are licensed once per server. For an agency with 30 client sites on three servers, SpinupWP costs $28 to $41 a month in fees at the time of writing, GridPane's PeakFreq managed servers cost about $108 a month including the servers, and ZoPanel Pro costs $147 a year in licences. Which one is cheapest overall depends on what you pay for the VPS and how much server work your team wants to own.
This post looks only at the agency case: many client sites, a small team, and clients who want to see their own site. For a broader look at WordPress panels, see the best control panel for WordPress. What changed at GridPane
In October 2026, GridPane's pricing page lists three options:
- Core: "100% free forever", for up to 25 websites, on your own Vultr server or a managed PeakFreq server. It includes server page caching, Redis object caching, the 7G firewall, SSL and cloning. The GridPane FAQ describes Core as "a restricted set of tools, without support, and with a limit of 25 sites", with community support only, and says Core has no staging.
- PeakFreq: fully managed high-frequency servers, from $19 a month. It adds support tickets, active server monitoring, staging, and local and remote backups.
- Bespoke Hosting: from $2,000 a year, with custom plans and SLAs.
The same pages say the older Panel and Developer Plus plans are no longer open for sign-up, and that GridPane plans to sell features as pay-as-you-go add-ons.
PeakFreq is priced per server, not per site. The PeakFreq pricing page lists, for example, 2 vCPU / 4 GB / 128 GB NVMe for $36.02 a month and 3 vCPU / 8 GB for $72.04 a month. It also states a site limit: "5 production websites + 5 staging websites per 1GB of RAM", and notes that remote backup storage is not included, so you bring your own Amazon S3 or Backblaze B2 account.
What SpinupWP charges
SpinupWP's pricing page lists two plans in October 2026, both billed monthly, with unlimited sites:
| Essentials | Advanced | |
|---|---|---|
| First server | $12 / month | $19 / month |
| Servers 2 to 3 | $8 each | $10 each |
| Servers 4 to 6 | $5 each | $5 each |
| Servers 7 to 20 | $4 each | $4 each |
| Scheduled backups | 1 daily snapshot per site | Up to 4 daily, 4 weekly, 4 monthly per site |
| Users | Single user | Extra users at $2 / month each, limited to chosen servers |
| Email support | Standard, typical response 12 hours | Priority, typical response 2 hours |
Past 20 servers the price keeps falling, to $1 a server from 61 servers. You bring your own server: SpinupWP integrates with Vultr, Akamai/Linode, DigitalOcean and Hetzner, and works with other providers too. There is a 7-day free trial with no credit card.
The cost for an agency with 30 client sites
Assumptions, so you can redo the maths with your own numbers:
- 30 client WordPress sites, mostly brochure and small business sites.
- 3 servers with 4 GB RAM each, 10 sites per server. A 4 GB server can hold far more sites than this with page cache (see how many WordPress sites a 4 GB VPS can host), so capacity is not the limit here. PeakFreq's stated limit is 20 production sites on 4 GB, so 3 servers also fit there.
- 2 team members who need their own login.
- Prices in USD, without VAT, as listed in October 2026. VPS costs are shown separately because they depend on your provider.
| Option | How it is billed | Software cost per month | Per year | 3 years | VPS included? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GridPane Core | Free, up to 25 sites | $0 | $0 | $0 | No, and 30 sites exceed the 25-site limit |
| GridPane PeakFreq | 3 × $36.02 per 4 GB server | $108.06 | $1,296.72 | $3,890.16 | Yes |
| SpinupWP Essentials | $12 + 2 × $8 | $28 | $336 | $1,008 | No (single user only) |
| SpinupWP Advanced | $19 + 2 × $10 + 1 user × $2 | $41 | $492 | $1,476 | No |
| ZoPanel Pro, yearly | 3 × $49 per year | about $12.25 | $147 | $441 | No |
| ZoPanel Pro, lifetime | 3 × $199 once | n/a | $597 once | $597 | No |
How to read this fairly:
- GridPane PeakFreq is not a panel fee. It is the server plus management plus 24/7 support. To compare it, add your VPS price to the other rows. With these numbers, SpinupWP Essentials on your own VPS costs less than PeakFreq as long as each 4 GB VPS costs under about $26.69 a month ($36.02 minus $9.33, SpinupWP's average per server). ZoPanel Pro yearly stays cheaper as long as each VPS costs under about $31.94 a month.
- GridPane Core is the cheapest if you fit it. An agency with 25 sites or fewer, happy with community support and no built-in staging, pays nothing for the software.
- ZoPanel Free can cover part of it too. The Free plan allows 3 hosting accounts, 10 websites and 10 databases per server. Ten sites per server fits exactly, but staging copies count toward the website limit and remote S3 backups need Pro, so most agencies would use Pro.
- Over 3 years the gap between SpinupWP Advanced and ZoPanel lifetime is $879 on this setup, before VPS costs, which are the same in both.
What GridPane and SpinupWP do well
GridPane is built only for WordPress, and Core gives you a tuned stack with page cache, Redis and the 7G firewall for free. With PeakFreq you hand server care to GridPane: active monitoring, backups (local and remote, from hourly to monthly per the PeakFreq page) and 24/7 access to WordPress support staff. If nobody on your team wants to be on call for servers, that is worth real money.
SpinupWP is a polished hosted dashboard. You see every server, at any provider, in one place, and it has unlimited staging sites, including cloning a site to another server and refreshing staging from live. Advanced plan users can be limited to specific servers and permissions.
Both are hosted, so you never patch the panel itself.
What ZoPanel gives an agency
ZoPanel takes the other approach: the panel runs on each server, and you pay a licence per server instead of a monthly fee. For agency work, the parts that matter are:
- One account per client. Each hosting account is its own Linux user with its own PHP-FPM pool and its own CPU, RAM and process limits, so one client's plugin problem stays in that client's account.
- WordPress tools on every site (WordPress Toolkit docs): one-click login with a one-time link, a security check with one-click fixes, safe updates that snapshot the files and database, update, check the site and roll back automatically if it broke, and server-run WP-Cron.
- Staging and publish to live. Create a staging copy on another domain, work on it, then publish it back. The live site is snapshotted first and restored automatically if it breaks. See our WordPress staging guide.
- Client access to one site. With website members, you give a client or freelancer their own login to one site, with Manage or View only access, without sharing the account password.
- Backups the agency controls. Full account backups, nightly incremental snapshots, hourly database backups, and encrypted copies to S3-compatible storage with Pro.
- Mail and DNS on the same server, if clients want their email hosted with their website. Neither GridPane nor SpinupWP lists email hosting on its pricing page.
- Several servers from one panel. The fleet feature lets one ZoPanel server act as a controller: you see the others, sign in to them with one click, create accounts on them and move websites between servers.
- Resellers and branding for agencies that resell hosting, with a white-label panel name on a paid licence (see white-label hosting panel).
Where ZoPanel is weaker
- No vendor-run dashboard or managed servers. The fleet controller is one of your own servers. ZoPanel sells software, so you or your team handle the server, and support is by ticket.
- Staging lives in the same account on the same server. SpinupWP can clone a site straight to another server; in ZoPanel you move a site to another server with the fleet feature instead.
- Branding is limited to a server-wide panel name. Every client on that server sees the same name; there are no per-client logos.
- No direct import from GridPane or SpinupWP. ZoPanel imports cPanel and DirectAdmin backups. From GridPane or SpinupWP, you copy files and databases site by site, as described in our RunCloud migration steps.
Which one fits your agency
| Your situation | Good fit |
|---|---|
| 25 sites or fewer, comfortable with community support | GridPane Core |
| No one wants to look after servers, budget allows it | GridPane PeakFreq |
| Want a hosted dashboard across many providers and many servers | SpinupWP |
| 20+ servers, WordPress only, no mail | SpinupWP (per-server price falls to $4 and below) |
| Want no monthly fee, client logins per site, mail and DNS included | ZoPanel |
| Resell hosting to clients with packages and billing | ZoPanel |
Conclusion
The best GridPane alternative depends on what you are paying for. If you want someone else to run the servers, GridPane PeakFreq or a managed host is the honest answer. If you want a hosted dashboard over your own VPS, SpinupWP is mature and fairly priced, especially at scale. If you want to stop paying monthly for management, keep everything on your own servers and give each client a separate account and login, a self-hosted panel costs the least. You can try ZoPanel on one server with the Free plan: 3 hosting accounts, 10 websites and 10 databases, no time limit. See all WordPress features.
Frequently asked questions
Is GridPane still free?
Yes, in part. GridPane's Core plan is free with a limit of 25 sites, on your own Vultr server or a PeakFreq server, but it comes without support (community only) and without staging. Backups, staging and support tickets come with PeakFreq managed servers, which start at $19 a month.
What happened to GridPane's Developer plans?
GridPane's pricing page says the Panel and Developer Plus plans are no longer available for sign-up, and that their features are expected to come back as add-ons. Existing customers should check their own account terms for how long their plan continues.
Is SpinupWP cheaper than GridPane?
For software fees alone, yes: three servers on SpinupWP Essentials cost $28 a month. But SpinupWP does not include the servers, while GridPane PeakFreq does. Add your VPS cost before comparing, and remember PeakFreq includes 24/7 support.
How many client sites can I put on one server?
It depends on traffic and plugins, but cached brochure sites are light. GridPane's own guidance is 7 to 10 cached brochure sites per 1 GB of RAM, and in our tests a 4 GB VPS ran 250 WordPress sites with page cache. Agencies usually split clients across servers for risk, not for capacity.
Can my clients log in to only their own site?
In ZoPanel, yes: add them as a website member with Manage or View only access. SpinupWP lets you invite extra users at $2 a month each on the Advanced plan and limit them to specific servers and permissions.
