cPanel vs Plesk in 2026: price, features and who should pick which
cPanel vs Plesk in 2026: per-account vs per-domain pricing, operating systems, WordPress tools, resellers and Git, with worked costs and who should pick which.

Key takeaways
- cPanel licenses by number of accounts; Plesk licenses per server in editions capped by domain count (10, 30 or unlimited).
- Plesk is the choice for Windows Server, ASP.NET and MSSQL; cPanel is the choice for traditional Linux shared hosting with the biggest add-on ecosystem.
- Only Plesk Web Host has reseller management, so compare cPanel Premier with Web Host for hosting businesses.
- Both belong to WebPros and both raised prices on 1 January 2026, so model five years, not one.
cPanel vs Plesk comes down to what you host and how you count it. Choose cPanel for classic Linux shared hosting, where customers know it, CloudLinux and other add-ons are standard and WHM gives resellers the deepest tooling. Choose Plesk if you need Windows Server (ASP.NET, MSSQL), if you are an agency that lives in WP Toolkit, or if you want one interface on many Linux distributions. On price, cPanel charges per account and Plesk per server in editions limited by domain count, so the cheaper one depends on your account-to-domain ratio.
Both products belong to the same company: cPanel and Plesk are listed side by side as WebPros products, along with WHMCS. We make ZoPanel, a third option covered briefly at the end. Facts and prices below are from vendor pages and partner notices at the time of writing (October 2026); check them again before you buy.

How the pricing differs
cPanel: you pay per account
At the time of writing, cPanel's pricing page lists:
| Tier | Accounts | USD per month |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | 1 | 29.99 |
| Admin | up to 5 | 35.99 |
| Pro | up to 30 | 53.99 |
| Premier | up to 100, then 0.49 per extra account | 69.99 |
Solo, Admin and Pro are for cloud/VPS servers only and are about 8.4% cheaper when paid yearly. Dedicated servers must use Premier. An account can hold many addon domains and still counts once, and WHM reseller accounts count as accounts. For more detail see cPanel license cost 2026.
Plesk: you pay per server, by domain count
Plesk sells three editions per server. According to Plesk's own edition guide (August 2026), Web Admin covers up to 10 domains with a limited WP Toolkit and no reseller layer, Web Pro covers 30 domains with the full WP Toolkit, and Web Host has unlimited domains and is "the only edition with built-in reseller management".
Plesk's pricing page shows prices in your region's currency and mentions a revised renewal price structure from 1 January 2026. A partner notice from Tier.Net, passing on WebPros' January 2026 increase, gives these monthly prices for virtual servers: Web Admin USD 16.99, Web Pro USD 29.99 and Web Host USD 62.99 (USD 69.99 on bare metal). We use those below; your reseller's price may differ.
Worked costs: five common scenarios
Monthly licence cost, list or partner-reported prices, before VAT and add-ons:
| Scenario | cPanel tier | cPanel per month | Plesk edition | Plesk per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agency, 1 account with 25 sites as addon domains | Solo | 29.99 | Web Pro (30 domains) | 29.99 |
| 10 customers, 1 domain each | Pro | 53.99 | Web Pro | 29.99 |
| 100 customers on a VPS | Premier | 69.99 | Web Host | 62.99 |
| 300 customers on a VPS | Premier + 200 × 0.49 | 167.99 | Web Host | 62.99 |
| 50 customers on a dedicated server | Premier | 69.99 | Web Host (bare metal) | 69.99 |
What this shows:
- For a few customers with many domains, cPanel can be cheaper, because it counts accounts, not domains. One agency account with 40 sites stays on Solo, while Plesk moves to Web Host above 30 domains.
- For many customers, Plesk Web Host is cheaper, because its price does not rise with accounts. At 300 accounts the gap is about USD 105 a month, or USD 6,300 over five years at today's prices.
- On dedicated servers they are close, until the cPanel server passes 100 accounts.
Add the extras you would buy on both sides. Per-account resource limits on either panel usually come from CloudLinux, listed at USD 18 a month for unlimited accounts on one server (CloudLinux pricing).
Features that decide it
Windows and .NET
Plesk runs on Windows Server 2016 through 2025, including Server Core. cPanel is Linux only. If you host ASP.NET or MSSQL, the decision is made.
WordPress tools
Both panels ship WP Toolkit. On cPanel, the free edition is included and Deluxe is a paid upgrade that some hosts include (cPanel's partner guide). On Plesk, the full toolkit comes with Web Pro and Web Host. Agencies that manage dozens of WordPress sites for clients often prefer Plesk for this reason.
Resellers and shared hosting
cPanel's WHM has been the standard for reseller hosting for years: reseller privileges, account packages, per-reseller nameservers and branding, and modules in every billing system. Plesk has reseller management only in Web Host. For a reseller business, compare cPanel Premier with Plesk Web Host, not the cheaper editions.
Developers: Git and Node.js
- cPanel has Git Version Control: push to a cPanel-managed repository and a post-receive hook runs the tasks in a checked-in
.cpanel.yml(guide to Git deployment). For apps, Application Manager runs Node.js, Python and Ruby through Passenger, and version 138 added AI App Hosting, which deploys Node.js apps in containers. We compare these in detail in Git deploy on cPanel, DirectAdmin and ZoPanel. - Plesk has a Git extension: each repository gets a webhook URL, automatic deployment on push is the default, and "additional deploy actions" run shell commands after each deploy (Plesk docs). A free Node.js extension lets you pick a Node.js version per site.
Operating systems and hardware
Plesk supports far more distributions, including Debian, and lists a lower RAM minimum. cPanel supports one Ubuntu LTS at a time (currently 24.04) plus the RHEL family, on x86-64 only. If your fleet is Debian or you want ARM, Plesk is the easier fit of the two.
Who should pick which
| Pick cPanel if | Pick Plesk if |
|---|---|
| You sell classic shared or reseller hosting and customers expect cPanel | You need Windows Server, ASP.NET or MSSQL |
| You run few accounts per server, each with many domains | You run many accounts per server and want a flat price |
| You rely on cPanel add-ons and a big pool of WHM technicians | You are an agency that wants the full WP Toolkit |
| You standardise on AlmaLinux or CloudLinux | You run Debian or want one panel across many distributions |
A third option for Linux-only hosts
If you only need Linux and are comparing these two mainly on cost, ZoPanel is worth adding to the test. It is licensed per server with no account or domain cap: Free covers 3 accounts and 10 websites, Pro is USD 49 a year or USD 199 once (pricing). It includes mail, DNS with DNSSEC, resellers, a WordPress Toolkit with staging and safe updates, Git deploy and Docker apps, and builds per-account isolation into each account's systemd slice. It imports cPanel backups directly, but not Plesk backups. Its limits are real: no Windows, only Ubuntu 22.04/24.04/26.04 and Debian 12/13, and a much younger ecosystem. If you are leaving Plesk, see our Plesk alternative guide; for the full field, see the best VPS control panels in 2026.
Conclusion
cPanel vs Plesk is less about which panel is better and more about fit. cPanel suits traditional Linux shared hosting and reseller businesses with fewer accounts per server, or customers who ask for it. Plesk suits Windows hosting, WordPress agencies and dense servers where a flat Web Host licence beats per-account fees. Model five years with your real account and domain counts, since both raised prices in 2026. If a per-server Linux panel is also on your list, install ZoPanel's Free plan on a test VPS and import a few cPanel accounts with the migration tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is Plesk cheaper than cPanel?
It depends on the ratio of accounts to domains. With many customer accounts per server, Plesk Web Host (about USD 62.99 a month on a VPS) beats cPanel, whose price rises USD 0.49 per account above 100. With one account and many addon domains, cPanel Solo can cost less.
Can I migrate between cPanel and Plesk?
From cPanel to Plesk, yes: the Plesk Migrator lists cPanel as a supported source and moves subscriptions, domains and website content, though not server settings. Going the other way is more manual. Test a few accounts first, especially mail and DNS.
Which is easier for beginners?
Plesk shows everything in one interface, which many first-time users find simpler. cPanel splits administration (WHM) from the customer panel (cPanel), which is clearer once you host for other people.
Do cPanel and Plesk both include email?
Yes. Both include a mail server, webmail, spam filtering and DNS. Deliverability still depends on your PTR, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.
Are cPanel and Plesk the same company?
Yes. Both are WebPros products, alongside WHMCS. They remain separate products with separate licences and development.
