Per-account vs per-server panel pricing: what you really pay at 10 to 1,000 accounts
cPanel per account pricing vs per-server panels: formulas and sourced yearly costs for cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk and ZoPanel at 10 to 1,000 accounts.

Key takeaways
- cPanel's licence grows by USD 0.49 a month for every account above 100, so a 1,000-account server costs about USD 6,132 a year at list price.
- DirectAdmin, Plesk Web Host and ZoPanel cost the same per server whether it holds 50 or 1,000 accounts.
- Splitting accounts across more servers barely changes cPanel's bill per account, but multiplies per-server licences.
- Per-account pricing is cheapest only at very low density, or when each account brings in a lot of revenue.
With cPanel per account pricing, your licence grows with your customer list: USD 53.99 a month covers up to 30 accounts, USD 69.99 covers 100, and every account after that adds USD 0.49 a month, so 1,000 accounts on one server cost about USD 6,132 a year at list price. Per-server panels charge a flat fee instead: DirectAdmin Standard is USD 29 a month, Plesk Web Host about USD 63 a month, and ZoPanel Pro USD 49 a year, whatever the account count. The crossover comes early: from about 10 accounts per server, per-server pricing is cheaper at list prices.
This article gives the formula for each panel, the yearly cost at six account counts, and what changes when you spread accounts over several servers. We make ZoPanel, so we have an interest; all other prices come from vendor pages or partner notices at the time of writing (October 2026), in USD, before VAT. For the full cPanel tier breakdown, see cPanel license cost 2026; this article is about the formulas and the comparison.
The formulas
Let n be the number of hosting accounts on one server and d the number of domains.
cPanel: per account
From cPanel's pricing page, monthly:
| Accounts (n) | Tier | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Solo | 29.99 |
| 2 to 5 | Admin | 35.99 |
| 6 to 30 | Pro | 53.99 |
| 31 to 100 | Premier | 69.99 |
| above 100 | Premier + overage | 69.99 + 0.49 × (n − 100) |
Rules that change the result: dedicated (metal) servers can only buy Premier; WHM reseller accounts and their customers all count; addon domains inside one account do not. Solo, Admin and Pro are about 8.4% cheaper billed yearly.
DirectAdmin: tiers by account count
From DirectAdmin's pricing page:
| Accounts (n) | Tier | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| up to 2 (20 domains) | Personal Plus | 5 |
| up to 10 (50 domains) | Lite | 15 |
| unlimited | Standard | 29 |
All current licences include the full feature set; DirectAdmin retired its separate Pro Pack in August 2023 (DirectAdmin docs).
Plesk: tiers by domain count
Plesk counts domains, not accounts. Per Plesk's edition guide, Web Admin covers 10 domains without reseller layers, Web Pro covers 30 domains, and Web Host is unlimited and the only edition with reseller management. Monthly prices for virtual servers from a partner notice of WebPros' January 2026 increase:
| Domains (d) | Edition | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| up to 10 | Web Admin | 16.99 |
| up to 30 | Web Pro | 29.99 |
| unlimited | Web Host | 62.99 (69.99 on bare metal) |
Plesk's own pricing page shows regional prices, so your figure may differ.
ZoPanel: per server
From ZoPanel pricing:
| Accounts (n) | Plan | Price |
|---|---|---|
| up to 3 (10 websites, 10 databases) | Free | 0 |
| unlimited | Pro | 49 per year, or 199 once (lifetime) |
Reseller accounts, remote S3 backups, API tokens and multiple PHP versions need Pro (licensing).
Yearly cost at 10 to 1,000 accounts
One server, one domain per account, list prices billed monthly, licence only:
| Accounts | cPanel | DirectAdmin | Plesk | ZoPanel Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 647.88 (Pro) | 180 (Lite) | 359.88 (Web Pro) | 49 |
| 50 | 839.88 (Premier) | 348 (Standard) | 755.88 (Web Host) | 49 |
| 100 | 839.88 | 348 | 755.88 | 49 |
| 250 | 1,721.88 | 348 | 755.88 | 49 |
| 500 | 3,191.88 | 348 | 755.88 | 49 |
| 1,000 | 6,131.88 | 348 | 755.88 | 49 |
How each cPanel figure is built, for example at 250 accounts: (69.99 + 150 × 0.49) × 12 = 143.49 × 12 = USD 1,721.88.
The same numbers per account per month show why density matters:
| Accounts | cPanel | DirectAdmin | Plesk | ZoPanel Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 5.40 | 1.50 | 3.00 | 0.41 |
| 100 | 0.70 | 0.29 | 0.63 | 0.04 |
| 1,000 | 0.51 | 0.03 | 0.06 | 0.004 |
cPanel's cost per account falls toward USD 0.49 and stops there. Per-server licences keep falling toward zero as you add accounts.
What happens with more servers
Real hosts rarely put 1,000 accounts on one machine. Spread them over several servers and the picture changes:
| 1,000 accounts spread over | cPanel per year | DirectAdmin per year | Plesk per year | ZoPanel Pro per year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 server | 6,131.88 | 348 | 755.88 | 49 |
| 4 servers (250 each) | 4 × 1,721.88 = 6,887.52 | 4 × 348 = 1,392 | 4 × 755.88 = 3,023.52 | 4 × 49 = 196 |
| 10 servers (100 each) | 10 × 839.88 = 8,398.80 | 10 × 348 = 3,480 | 10 × 755.88 = 7,558.80 | 10 × 49 = 490 |
With per-account pricing, the bill tracks the number of customers and adds a Premier base for every server. With per-server pricing, the bill tracks the number of machines. That is why per-server licences reward dense, well-isolated servers, and why isolation matters: putting more customers on one machine is only safe if one of them cannot slow down or reach the others. See hosting resource limits for how that works.
The add-ons people forget
The licence is not the whole bill.
- Per-account resource limits. cPanel, DirectAdmin and Plesk servers commonly add CloudLinux for CPU, memory and I/O limits per account. Its pricing page lists unlimited accounts at USD 18 a month for one server, USD 16 each for 2 to 4 servers and USD 14 each for 5 to 49. On four servers that is 4 × 16 × 12 = USD 768 a year. ZoPanel puts each account in its own systemd slice with CPU, memory and process limits, so there is no separate product for that.
- Security, backup and installer add-ons, each with its own price list.
- Partner discounts. Many VPS providers resell cPanel and Plesk below list price. Get a quote before you finalise the sheet.
When per-account pricing is the better deal
To be fair to cPanel's model:
- One customer per server. A managed VPS with one account pays cPanel Solo, and per-server pricing gives no density benefit.
- High-value accounts. If each account pays you USD 30 a month, USD 0.49 is under 2% of revenue, and cPanel's ecosystem may be worth far more.
- Customer demand. In some markets, cPanel is what customers ask for, and that sells hosting.
If none of these apply and you host dozens or hundreds of accounts per server, per-server pricing will almost always cost less. For the pricing side of your own plans, see how to price hosting plans.
Do the calculation with your own numbers
- Count accounts per server today and your estimate in two years.
- Count domains too if Plesk is on the list.
- Note whether the servers are VPS or dedicated (cPanel metal = Premier).
- Add the per-server add-ons you would buy.
- Multiply by five years and by the number of servers.
- Compare with the revenue per account.
Conclusion
Per-account pricing makes sense for single-customer VPSs and high-value accounts. Once a server holds more than about ten accounts, flat per-server licences cost less at list prices, and the gap grows with every customer. Build the sheet with your real counts, include add-ons, and then test the cheaper option with real accounts. ZoPanel's Free plan runs 3 accounts and 10 websites with no time limit, and its importer reads cPanel backups directly, so you can test with your own customers' sites before you spend anything.
Frequently asked questions
How much does cPanel cost per account?
At list price it ranges from USD 29.99 a month for a single-account server to about USD 0.51 per account per month at 1,000 accounts. Above 100 accounts, each extra account costs USD 0.49 a month.
Do suspended or reseller accounts count toward cPanel's licence?
WHM reseller accounts count as accounts, and so do all the accounts they create. Ask your licence provider how suspended accounts are counted, and remove accounts nobody uses.
Is DirectAdmin cheaper than cPanel per account?
Yes, above a handful of accounts. DirectAdmin Standard is USD 29 a month with no account limit, while cPanel is USD 69.99 for 100 accounts and grows from there.
Does Plesk charge per account?
No. Plesk charges per server, in editions defined by domain count: 10, 30 or unlimited. Many customers with one domain each therefore need Web Host, the unlimited edition.
How is ZoPanel priced?
Per server. The Free plan covers 3 accounts, 10 websites and 10 databases. Pro is USD 49 a year or USD 199 once, with unlimited accounts on that server.
