Which control panels run on Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 13?

The best control panel for Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 13 must first support it. We checked nine panels' own docs for Ubuntu 22.04 to 26.04 and Debian 12/13.

Table of hosting control panels against Ubuntu 24.04, Ubuntu 26.04 and Debian 13 support

Key takeaways

  • Plesk, DirectAdmin, HestiaCP, CloudPanel and ZoPanel list Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04, 26.04 and Debian 12 and 13 in their own docs.
  • cPanel lists only Ubuntu 24.04 on the Debian/Ubuntu side, and CyberPanel lists Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 with Debian as third-party only.
  • Virtualmin lists Ubuntu 24.04/26.04 and Debian 12/13 but not 22.04; aaPanel's download page contradicts itself on newer releases.
  • Pick the OS first by support window, then pick a panel that lists that exact version, not "Ubuntu" in general.

If you are setting up a new server in October 2026, the panels whose own documentation lists Ubuntu 24.04, Ubuntu 26.04, Debian 12 and Debian 13 are Plesk, DirectAdmin, HestiaCP, CloudPanel and ZoPanel. cPanel supports Ubuntu 24.04 but no Debian, CyberPanel supports Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 with Debian only as third-party, and Virtualmin supports Ubuntu 24.04/26.04 and Debian 12/13. So the best control panel for Ubuntu 24.04 is one that lists 24.04 by name and fits your needs on price, email and isolation.

This post is narrower than our VPS control panel comparison: it answers one question, "will this panel install and stay supported on the OS I want?", with a link to the vendor page behind every cell.

Supported OS table (checked October 2026)

"Yes" means the vendor's own docs or requirements page names that version. "Not stated" means we could not find it on the vendor's page, so we do not guess. "Third-party" means the vendor mentions the OS but without guaranteed support.

* aaPanel's download page has two lists that disagree. Its FAQ names Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04, 22.04 and Debian 10, 11, 12 and recommends Ubuntu 22.04. Its software stack table says "Ubuntu 18.04 - 26.04" and "Debian 9 - 13". We mark the versions that only appear in the range as "Range only".

Support lists change with every release, so check the linked page on the day you install.

What the table does not show

cPanel: Ubuntu 24.04 only, and no ARM

cPanel's Ubuntu requirements page says "You can install cPanel & WHM on Ubuntu version 24.04 LTS" and that when a new LTS is added, the previous one is deprecated. It also says cPanel does not support ARM servers. On the RHEL side, AlmaLinux 10 needs cPanel version 132 or later. Debian is not on cPanel's list at all. If you want cPanel, Ubuntu 24.04 or AlmaLinux is the choice. For pricing and options around it, see our cPanel alternatives guide.

Plesk: the widest list

Plesk's software requirements list Ubuntu 26.04 and Debian 13 as recommended, plus 24.04, 22.04 and Debian 12. It also lists older systems under paid Extended Lifecycle Support, and Ubuntu 22.04 on ARM with some features unavailable. Plesk Obsidian 18.0.81 is the last release for Debian 11. If you need the broadest choice of OS, Plesk is strong here.

DirectAdmin: dates per OS

DirectAdmin's OS page is the clearest of the group: a table with the OS end-of-life date and DirectAdmin's own end-of-support date, usually about three months later. At the time of writing it lists Ubuntu 24.04 until July 2029, Ubuntu 26.04 until July 2031 and Debian 13 until September 2030. The page adds that dates may change and changes are announced on their forum.

CyberPanel: Ubuntu yes, Debian maybe

The CyberPanel README lists Ubuntu 24.04.3 and 22.04 plus many RHEL-family systems. Debian appears only as "May work with Ubuntu-compatible packages", and the README warns that compatibility is not guaranteed on unsupported systems. Ubuntu 26.04 is not mentioned.

Virtualmin: grades, not a flat list

Virtualmin sorts systems into grades on its OS support page. Grade A, its recommended tier, includes Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04, Debian 12 and 13, and RHEL, AlmaLinux and Rocky 8, 9 and 10, on x86-64 and ARM64. Ubuntu 22.04 is not on the page.

HestiaCP and CloudPanel: Debian and Ubuntu only

HestiaCP lists Debian 12 or 13 and Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 or 26.04, and says it does not support non-LTS releases. CloudPanel lists the same five versions and both x86 and ARM64. Neither lists an RHEL-family system. Both are free; our free control panel comparison covers what each one includes.

ZoPanel: the same five, with caveats

ZoPanel's requirements list Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04 and Debian 12 and 13, on x86-64 and ARM64. The installer stops on anything else, so there is no RHEL-family option. Two caveats we state in our own docs:

  • Ubuntu 22.04 has no ModSecurity module for nginx, so the web application firewall is not available there.
  • Ubuntu 26.04 currently gets only PHP 8.5, because the multi-PHP repository has no 26.04 packages yet. Apps that need an older PHP cannot be installed until it does; the panel then offers the other versions without an update.

Our recommendation for a new ZoPanel server is Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12/13.

Ubuntu 24.04, 26.04 or Debian 13: which to pick first

Choose the OS before the panel. When the OS reaches end of life, moving to a newer one usually means a new server and a migration, so the OS's support window matters as much as the panel's feature list.

Question Ubuntu 24.04 Ubuntu 26.04 Debian 13
End of standard OS support May 2029 (Canonical) May 2031 (Canonical) June 2030 (per DirectAdmin's table)
Supported by cPanel Yes Not stated No
Supported by all of Plesk, DirectAdmin, HestiaCP, CloudPanel, Virtualmin, ZoPanel Yes Yes Yes
Released April 2024 April 2026 9 August 2025 (Debian)

Practical rules:

  • Need cPanel? Ubuntu 24.04 (or AlmaLinux). Nothing else on the Debian/Ubuntu side.
  • Want the longest window today? Ubuntu 26.04, if your panel and every repository you rely on already have packages for it. The ZoPanel PHP case above is a real example of a repository lagging behind a new release.
  • Prefer a conservative base? Debian 13. Debian's releases change little during their life, which suits a server that should run for years.
  • Already on Ubuntu 22.04? Canonical's standard security maintenance for it ends in May 2027, and DirectAdmin stops supporting it in July 2027. Plan a move rather than starting new servers on it.

If you would rather run nginx, MariaDB and PHP by hand without a panel, our LEMP stack on Ubuntu 24.04 guide walks through it.

Checklist before you install a panel

Check Why
The exact OS version is on the vendor's page "Supports Ubuntu" is not enough; versions get added and dropped
Architecture (x86-64 or ARM64) cPanel does not support ARM; CloudPanel, Virtualmin and ZoPanel list ARM64, Plesk lists Ubuntu 22.04 on ARM with limits
The server is fresh Panels expect a clean OS; ZoPanel's installer refuses to run over cPanel, DirectAdmin, aaPanel or a foreign Apache
The panel's end-of-support date for that OS DirectAdmin publishes it; for others, watch release notes
PHP versions you need are packaged for that OS Newer releases can lag, as with PHP on Ubuntu 26.04

Where ZoPanel fits

ZoPanel is built only for Ubuntu and Debian, which keeps the installer and the tested combinations small. You get nginx with optional Apache per site for .htaccess, email, DNS with DNSSEC, resellers and per-account CPU, RAM and process limits, with the web interface running as an unprivileged user (installation guide).

Where others are better: if your team standardizes on AlmaLinux or RHEL, ZoPanel is not an option and cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin or Virtualmin are. If your workflow depends on cPanel-specific plugins or tools, staying on cPanel is simpler. And Plesk covers every Ubuntu and Debian version in this table plus several RHEL-family systems, so it gives you the most freedom to pick an OS.

Conclusion

For a new server in October 2026, Ubuntu 24.04 is the safest common choice: every panel in this table except aaPanel lists it by name, and aaPanel includes it in a version range. Debian 13 and Ubuntu 26.04 are well supported by Plesk, DirectAdmin, HestiaCP, CloudPanel, Virtualmin and ZoPanel, but not by cPanel. Pick the OS by its support window, confirm the exact version on the vendor's page, then compare panels on features and price.

To try ZoPanel on Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 13, the Free plan gives you 3 hosting accounts, 10 websites and 10 databases with no time limit. Install it on a fresh server with curl -fsSL https://get.zopanel.net | sudo bash, or use the verified install in the docs.

Frequently asked questions

Does cPanel support Debian 13?

No. cPanel's requirements cover AlmaLinux, CloudLinux, Rocky Linux and Ubuntu, and on Ubuntu only version 24.04 LTS is named. Debian is not on the list, so for a Debian server you need another panel.

Which free control panel supports Ubuntu 24.04?

HestiaCP and CloudPanel list Ubuntu 24.04 in their own docs, and so does Virtualmin's free GPL edition. CyberPanel lists it too. ZoPanel's Free plan also runs on it, limited to 3 hosting accounts and 10 websites.

Is Ubuntu 26.04 ready for a hosting panel?

Several panels already list it: Plesk (as recommended), DirectAdmin, HestiaCP, CloudPanel, Virtualmin and ZoPanel. The risk is less the panel than the third-party repositories it depends on, which can lag a new release for months. Check that the PHP versions your sites need are available before you move production sites.

Should I use Ubuntu 22.04 for a new server?

We would not. Canonical's standard security maintenance for 22.04 ends in May 2027, cPanel's current page no longer names it, and on ZoPanel it lacks the nginx WAF module. Use Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12/13 instead.

Can I upgrade the OS under a running control panel?

Check your panel vendor's docs first, because an OS upgrade under a full hosting stack touches the web server, PHP, database and mail at once. The lower-risk route is a fresh server on the new OS and a site migration, which keeps the old server as your rollback. Our docs cover moving a whole server to ZoPanel.
