# What each app does

> A plain-language guide to every one-click app in the App Store — what it is, who it is for, and when to choose it, so you can pick the right one for your server.

Many people rent a server for one reason: to self-host a single app they would otherwise pay a monthly subscription for, and keep their data on their own machine. ZoPanel's **App Store** installs each of these in one click, behind your own domain, with automatic SSL. This page explains what every app is for in plain terms; the [App Store and S3 storage](/docs/apps) page covers how installation, isolation and limits work.

Each app runs in its own Docker container with a memory limit (shown below). Add up the memory of the apps you plan to run and make sure your server has enough RAM, plus about 1 GB for the system and the panel.

## Notes and writing

### Memos — personal notes and a lightweight journal
A fast place to jot notes, to-dos and a daily log from your phone or browser, with tags and Markdown. Your notes stay on your server, not a third-party app.
**Choose it when:** you want a private alternative to note apps like Google Keep or Flomo. **Needs ~256 MB RAM.**

### Ghost — a professional blog or newsletter
A modern publishing platform for blogs, magazines and paid newsletters, with a clean editor, built-in memberships and email subscriptions.
**Choose it when:** you are a writer, creator or business that wants a fast, ad-free blog and your own newsletter list instead of Medium or Substack. **Needs ~768 MB RAM.**

### Excalidraw — a shared whiteboard
Draw diagrams, flowcharts and sketches with a hand-drawn look, and share a board link with others in real time.
**Choose it when:** you run workshops, design sessions or online teaching and want a private whiteboard. **Needs ~256 MB RAM.**

## Files and collaboration

### Nextcloud — your own cloud drive
A full replacement for Google Drive / Dropbox: sync files across devices, share links, and use the built-in calendar, contacts, notes and document editing. Desktop and mobile apps included.
**Choose it when:** you want to move your family's or company's files off big cloud providers and keep full control, with as much space as your disk allows. **Needs ~1 GB RAM** (more for many users).

## Work automation and business

### n8n — connect your apps and automate work
A visual workflow builder (a self-hosted Zapier / Make) that links hundreds of services: when something happens in one app, do something in another — send emails, update sheets, post to chat, call APIs — with no monthly task limits.
**Choose it when:** you automate repetitive work across tools and don't want to pay per task or worry about data leaving your server. **Needs ~1 GB RAM.**

### Metabase — dashboards and business intelligence
Point it at your databases and build charts and dashboards that non-technical staff can read and filter, without writing SQL.
**Choose it when:** you want to turn your shop, app or spreadsheet data into dashboards for your team. **Needs ~1.5 GB RAM.**

### Uptime Kuma — monitoring and status pages
Watches your websites, servers and services and alerts you (Telegram, email, and more) the moment one goes down, with a public status page you can share with customers.
**Choose it when:** you run any site or service and want to know about downtime before your users tell you. **Needs ~512 MB RAM.**

## Developers

### Gitea — your own Git hosting
A lightweight, self-hosted GitHub: private repositories, issues, pull requests and a web UI, without usage limits or per-seat fees.
**Choose it when:** a team or solo developer wants private code hosting fully under their control. **Needs ~512 MB RAM.**

## Security

### Vaultwarden — a private password manager
A Bitwarden-compatible server: use the official Bitwarden apps and browser extensions, but store all your passwords and secrets on your own server. Share vaults with family or a team.
**Choose it when:** you want the convenience of Bitwarden without trusting a third party with your passwords. **Needs ~256 MB RAM.**

## AI assistants and tools

These need an API key from a model provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek…), which you pay for directly; ZoPanel never sees it. They are heavier — plan for the RAM below.

### Open WebUI — a private ChatGPT-style chat
A polished chat interface for OpenAI, Claude (through OpenAI-compatible access) and local Ollama models. Multiple users, chat history and documents, all on your server.
**Choose it when:** you want a shared AI chat for yourself or a team, with your own API keys and no per-seat SaaS fee. **Needs ~2 GB RAM.**

### OpenClaw — an AI assistant you talk to from chat apps
A self-hosted assistant you message from Telegram, Zalo, WhatsApp and similar, backed by the LLM key you provide. It answers and can run tasks from a simple chat.
**Choose it when:** you want an always-on AI helper reachable from the chat apps you already use, kept private on your own server. **Needs 2 GB+ RAM and an LLM API key.**

### Flowise — build AI chatbots and agents visually
A drag-and-drop builder for chatbots, retrieval-over-your-documents assistants and multi-step AI agents, which you can then embed on a website or call by API.
**Choose it when:** you want to build a custom AI assistant or document chatbot without writing much code. **Needs ~1 GB RAM.**

## After you install

Point the domain's A record at your server; SSL is issued automatically. Manage each app on its website's **Docker** tab — status, logs, restart, and **Update to latest** (your data is kept). If an app prints a first-login token, you'll find it under **Login details**.

Want something not on the list? Administrators can run any public Docker image behind a domain — see [custom Docker images](/docs/apps).
